Just checking in....

....with nothing monumental on my mind (at least I don't want to start the week out with so many things that keep playing in my mind over and over.  But upon saying that, a moment of silence for Florida....)

I read stage directions over the weekend for a lovely play at Chicago Dramatists, directed by the incredible Nick Sandys.  It was wonderful to watch him work with this group of actors, the way he approached the script, the language, the thoughts, the metaphors, the humor, the intricacies of relationships and humanity, finding references to literature and classic plays, relating stories to us in side bars that had everything to do with what was happening in the world of the play.  It was such a privilege to be there and watch him work with everyone and delve into the script, sometimes poring over a three-word sentence and mining such gravitas beyond those three words.  I mean, we have eight hours for these readings and we all try to mine everything we can in that short period of time to help the playwright hear what she/he has written.  It amazes me how much depth can be achieved in such a small period of time with collaborative, hard-working, imaginative, intelligent, and talented folks in a room.  I'm so happy I was available and said yes :-)

Right now as I write, it's rainy and gloomy and the snow is melting in rivers which certainly will threaten homes and flood streets.  All that snow, all this rain....kooky weather, for sure.  We're supposed to have thunderstorms tonight.  What a great way to fall asleep.  I hope you find sun in your day (unless you need some rain).  In the meantime, enjoy this fun snow creature we encountered in the Skokie Lagoons yesterday :-)
