Garage Sale Saturday....
.....in the 'hood :-) One man's trash is another man's treasure. So much fun to walk around, map in hand, looking for nothing in particular but something spectacular. Last year, my big finds were Lone Ranger and Tonto squirt guns, probably from the '60s, that are so awesome and make me smile every day. This year I hit pay dirt again. A house was selling all of these books, which I haven't really been buying because I'm out of bookshelf space, BUT they had a beautiful copy of Uncle Tom's Cabin, leather-bound and marble-boarded, published in 1938, and it just was really pretty. For a dollar! Sold! When I was looking through it later, I discovered amazing illustrations that look very WPA-esque, 16 in all. I did a little digging online and found a site selling these, but it said "signed." So thumbing through again, at the back, the book is signed by the illustrator and numbered - #971 out of 1,500 copies! A fantastic find! I actually bought it to read because (sheepishly, she says) I've never read Uncle Tom's Cabin. Now I can't read this copy because it's actually worth something! Thank goodness for the library :-) Wooo-hooo -- another great Garage Sale Saturday day. Love, love, love it!
Enjoy some Riverwalk pics and have a most lovely day!
