...last night at Chicago Dramatists for the Scene Shop Showcase. Ten playwrights got to show off their skills after being chosen by a guest judge to receive a rehearsed staged reading of a ten-minute scene. I was thrilled to be a part of it. The stellar crowd was overflowing out of the seats, sitting on the stairs -- the place was jam-packed -- and the amazing audience was so supportive of the work. This is the tenth (!) showcase of this kind and I've been fortunate enough to be involved in all ten. Can't wait for the next one in the fall. Ahhh, it's so rewarding and fun and exciting to collaborate on a new work -- no preconceived notions about how anything should be played and discoveries abound. A blank canvas for the taking -- what joy!
