I'm In An Olympic....

...frame of mind :-)  Ah, yes, the games have begun!  Opening ceremony last night, marred only by the stupid amount of commercial interruptions!  I mean really!  You'd have two minutes of ceremony and ten minutes of commercials.  But enough carping.  Isn't it awesome to see the athletes enter the stadium, their eyes as big as saucers, their smiles reaching from ear to ear, their dreams big and boundless?  What it must take for someone just to get there, much less medal.  Which most of them won't.  Most of them will be eliminated in the first heat.  Worked all their lives to get there to have their Olympic moment be done in sixty seconds.  Amazing.  But they can always say that they were an Olympian.  And unless they cheated, that can never be taken away from them.  I have such huge admiration for all of them, great and small, medal winners and first-round cuts.  You go, boys and girls!

I just need to take a moment to say I miss Jim McKay, the late, great announcer of my youth who was there for every Olympics and Wide World of Sports (the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat).  I miss him as I miss Johnny Carson, Peter Jennings, and peanut butter (I can't eat it anymore because it upsets my stomach :-(
