Out Of The Mouth Of....

....five-year-old kids.  I had an audition yesterday with this adorable little girl.  Now, I'll be honest with you, 99% of the time when I audition with kids, they're fun and talkative and playful in the waiting room, and then as soon as we go into the audition, they're like a deer in the headlights or start crying or can't get a single word out or turn around to walk out the door or plead for their mommy (I swear I have nothing to do with it! :-)  There actually was one kid I almost auditioned with who couldn't stop crying and screaming once we got in the room and the parent had to take him out.  So...that old quote from W.C. Fields, "Never work with animals or kids," I gotta tell you....animals?  Sure.  Kids...well...you just never know what you're going to get, do you?  And don't get me wrong, I love kids (so did Fields, actually), but they are certainly a wild card!

So the audition yesterday was all improv -- the session runner, who we'll call Beth, asked us canned questions that we were supposed to answer off the cuff.  I went first and had fun.  Then the little girl, who we'll call Audrey, was up.  Beth asked Audrey things she liked to do with her grandmother, which went well.  Then Beth asked Audrey, "What's the funniest thing your grandma has ever done?"  Audrey turns to me, gets a totally impish grin on her face, and smiling to the camera, says, "Pooped in her pants!"  Beth and I broke out into peals of laughter and I turned to Audrey and stage whispered, "You weren't supposed to tell that to anybody!" and we all had a merry time.  My audition time was late in the day and Beth said that was the most fun she'd had all day :-)  When Audrey and I walked out and shared what happened with her father, he looked horrified.  Ahhhh, kids...they say the darndest things!

Just to continue with the kids' theme today, here's another fun picture from one of the many boxes Mom kept of our art.  I believe this was from the hand of my brother.  Hope you're having a merry day today!
