....turn v-e-r-y slowly. I should know this, being not only an actor, but a scopist. Before you say, "Huh? What's that?" I'll tell you :-) A scopist edits transcripts for court reporters. I've been scoping since 2008 and have seen all sides of humanity and inhumanity. A lot of the depositions that I'm starting to get in now are dealing with nursing home situations during the lockdown, so I know I'm going to see a steady stream come in. Not only do these depositions get my blood boiling, but they also break my heart. Because I not only get the written transcript to work on, I also get the audio, I can hear the anguish, tears, frustration, anger, love, loss in the witnesses' voices and it's so difficult to hear. Not just from the human standpoint of how could someone in a skilled care facility let ________________ (fill in your horror here) go for so long before there's nothing to be done, but also from the very personal standpoint that my mother is in an assisted living place being taken care of by total strangers. I mean, I've met them all, my sister talks to everyone frequently, we're kind, we're supportive, we tell them what a wonderful job they're doing, I bring them candy and cookies when I visit, but at the end of the day, these people are strangers taking care of someone I love fiercely and I have no choice but to trust that they're doing a great job for my family and taking care of Mom. Luckily, my mom is awesome and everyone loves her, so they are taking amazing care of her. Sigh... we have elder care so screwed up in this country. In fact, just the whole viewpoint of the elderly versus the youth is....mind boggling to me. Do you know that in Hollywood, if you're a woman, you're old at 34? It's a little better for men - I think it hovers around 40. I mean!!! Okay, that's a discussion for a different day. Breathe....
I started this with a totally different intention. So interesting how our minds work! As soon as I wrote out the title, all sorts of other things flooded into my brain. I'm not going to go on, but I am going to say that I hope your loved ones are well cared for by you or by people you trust, that you're being well cared for by you or by people you trust, and that your day is a fantastic day full of everything you want it to be.
