....One Of A Kind Show at the Merchandise Mart for me and my BFF. We went on Thursday and could not have had a better time :-) I love seeing all the artisans' works, but even more importantly, I love spending the day with a wonderful friend, laughing and talking and shopping and trying stuff on that we'll never buy and finding THE THING that neither one of us can live without. It's a day I look forward to now every year since we began. And this year especially since I'm feeling lost and forlorn and scared since 11/8. It was a real pick-me-up, I can tell you. What were our finds this year? My friend found a gorgeous necklace that looks perfect on her. We came across a booth that I had taken a card from last year and had been admiring the stuff on the jeweler's website since then. Lo and behold! there she was with her fab jewelry designs, and my friend and I spent quite a while in her booth trying stuff on. My friend got a beautiful pair of earrings and I bought a way-cool necklace. Had to go back the next day and buy a peace sign ring that I kept thinking about that I had passed up....the peace sign. One of my all-time favorite symbols. Has been since I can remember. What a great day....wish I could keep that spirit.
But last night, I made the mistake of watching the news....now that the Orange Man has incomprehensively stolen the White House, bully regimes around the world have taken heart. I saw that in Germany, a party begun by the Nazis is gaining power. God (if I believed in one) help us....the meek shall inherit the Earth? In whose lifetime? Not mine, I fear. Survival of the fittest means kill or be killed....I look to the future and it makes me want to stay in bed....man....what to do, what to do.....anyone have any answers out there?
Okay, once again, I can't end on such a bleak note. Here's something to make all of us :-) Saw this in the back of a pickup truck on the way to Wrigley Field after the Cubbies won the World Series. Is this not awesome? Carved from wood and wonderful.
